First of all, diamonds that have an intense yellow or brown color or any other color is called a fancy diamond.  Fancy yellow diamonds have a rare, but intense yellow color to it that makes it one of a kind.

When people see ads in print or on TV, they usually advertise clear, colorless diamonds.  Though rare, colored (i.e. fancy) diamonds do exist.  Fancy yellow diamonds are made that way by the presence of impurities or structural defects that change the color to a very deep and noticeable yellow.  The main impurity found in such a diamond are nitrogen atoms.  When the nitrogen atoms form and coalesce in a certain way, they give the diamond a color.  In yellow diamonds, the nitrogen atoms have to be dispersed within the diamond’s structure thoroughly and in isolated parts.

For people who want to sport yellow diamond jewelry, yellow diamonds are the way to do it.  Imagine this: a lovely yellow diamond necklace with a matching set of diamond earrings.  You might want to add a diamond bracelet or two.  It may seem like going overboard but if you want to impress others, this is the way to do it.
